Open The Book

Open the Book

We are thinking about you all and holding every one of you in our prayers.

Update – 6th July

Good morning everybody.   This weeks Open the Book is about Zacchaeus The Taxman!

Jesus and the Taxman

What a surprise for Zacchaeus.  He was hiding up in that tree when Jesus spotted him and asked to come to his house.  Wow, what a thing to happen.   What would you do if Jesus said he’d like to come and meet your family and share a meal?   Can you imagine what you would do, and what would happen?
Actually, Jesus loves a party and he really enjoyed meeting people and talking, listening and laughing with them.   I think you’d have a lot of fun if he came to your house.

Let’s sing Zacchaeus Was a Wee Little Man   youtube.com/watch?v=yxe9jO0scgA
What would you do to prepare if  Jesus came to your house?
Would you cook something special?  Tidy your room?  Invite some of your friends and family in (if it were after the  lock down)?

Would you also try to prepare yourself to meet him, like being kind and cheerful,  helping and listening, laughing and doing all the things that you do best?  Jesus would love that.

We are thinking about you all and hold you all in our prayers.  Have a wonderful summer holiday and we will be with you next term – either on the internet or visiting your school.   Have fun.
Lucy and The Team.

The Promised One

What a  long wait Simeon had.   Are you good at waiting?

Sometimes it is hard to wait for something that you have been promised, but we all have to learn to wait.   We wait for a lift or the bus, we wait for a promised present, we wait for a meal when we are hungry, we wait for the time when we can see our family and friends again, we wait for all sorts of things.   It is a difficult thing to do.  What do you do while you are waiting?
Do you lose your temper and get cross?   Do you do something else to take your mind off it?  Do you sulk?  Do you nag to see if you can make it come faster, or do you enjoy the feeling that it is something nice that will happen and you look forward to it happily and patiently?

Here are some ideas to test your waiting skills….
You could bake some biscuits and be patient while you are waiting for them to cook.
Do a jig saw puzzle, it can take time as you wait to see where the next bit goes.
Wait for a seed to grow into a plant (you could grow a lettuce or some herbs in a pot).
Paint a picture and wait for the paint to dry.
Play hide and seek.
See how long you can stay still for! or silent for!!

Friends support and help you, they remember your birthday and enjoy celebrating with you.   They are there for you when you are happy or sad.  You can talk to them about all sorts of things.  Friends can make you laugh and they play with you. Friends will listen and care for you.

What else might a friend do for you?

What else could you do for your friends?

Are you missing your friends now?  Perhaps you could draw a picture, send a letter with some jokes to make them laugh, or make a present to send to your friend.
Maybe you could colour a stone and put it somewhere for your friend to find.

Friends are very special.

Good morning.   This weeks Open the Book is about Nehemiah building a huge wall round Jerusalem.

Build up the Walls of Jerusalem City.

Click onto the web site and enjoy the story read by Bob Hartman called  Build up the Walls.
https://www.biblesociety.org.uk/get-involved/open-the-book/stories-with-bob-hartman/

What an amazing story.   By joining together and working hard, an enormous wall was built that went round the whole of Jerusalem City.  It was a task that not many people would be able to do, but Nehemiah did it because God was helping him.

Because they worked as a team the walls were built quickly and well.   Do you enjoy doing things with others?   Perhaps you could help someone in your family to do something today, cooking, cleaning, gardening, car washing, tidying, making something.  Once it is done you could look back and see if with your help it was done faster and better than one person doing it by themselves.

Perhaps you could design a building and make a list of all the different people and skills that would be needed to create it…..   Carpenters, builders, plumbers, electricians, painters etc.  What materials would you have to use… wood, bricks etc.

Let’s sing Oi, Oi, we are gonna praise the Lord.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5XlSKryUcE

We pray for you all

8th June

Good morning.   This weeks Open the Book is about helping people.  I wonder if your family know the story?

Who is my Neighbour?

Click onto the web site and enjoy the story read by Bob Hartman called Who is my Neighbour.
https://www.biblesociety.org.uk/get-involved/open-the-book/stories-with-bob-hartman/

That is a powerful story.  We can make a huge difference by giving a little loving help.

Can you do something to help someone today, maybe your Mum, Dad, family or a friend?
Send a message to a friend or Grandparent, Uncle or Aunt who might be feeling a bit unhappy?

You could draw round your hand and cut it out and write a list of all the things you could help other people with.

Can you do the actions and sing My God is so Big and so Strong and so Mighty.    Have fun….  https://youtu.be/PHGNcpIZofE

Good morning everyone.

Do you remember the story of Jesus Ascending to Heaven?    Well we are going to discover what happened next to the Disciples when Jesus went away.  They must have felt very lonely with out Jesus.

Each year we remember the day when the Holy Spirit came down to the people and we call this day Pentecost.

Let’s say a prayer together…
Dear God,
We pray that you will keep us safe and all those that we love.
Bless us and our families, and especially bless our school and teachers as they help us to learn during this time of lock down.
Amen.

Update – 18th May

Hi Everyone. This week we celebrate Ascension Day on Thursday 21st May.

ASCENSION DAY

During the 40 days after his resurrection (being raised from the dead), Jesus appeared to his disciples from time to time. He spoke to them about the kingdom of God.

Once he told them to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the gift he would send them. That gift would be the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would live in them and guide them. He would be a Comforter to them. Jesus wanted them to tell everyone on earth that he had died for them. He told them to teach and to baptize those who believed.

After these 40 days and when Jesus had said all this, he was taken up to heaven right in front of their eyes. A cloud hid him from their sight, and two angels, who looked like men dressed in white, came and stood beside them.

The angels said, “Why are you looking up in the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up into heaven will come back some day in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

We also believe that he will come again.

Below is a link which illustrates The Ascension.

Let’s say a prayer.
Thank you God for sending your Son Jesus to us.   Although we might not be able to see him we know that he is there along with you and the Holy Spirit, looking down on us and keeping us safe.  Please look after our families and friends now and always.  Amen.

Now for some fun.

Jesus prayed a lot to God.   Why do you think he prayed?
Do you think it helped him to make his decision as to who to choose as his Disciples?

Can you sit quietly and read this prayer.   Perhaps you can say your own prayer too.
Dear Lord, help me to love everyone as Jesus did and to choose my friends well and value them.   Even though we can’t be with our friends at the moment we know that they are there and look forward to when we can all meet up again.   Hold them safe Lord.   Amen.

Now for some fun.  How about inviting your family to join you sing and dance to.    It is Great, Great, Brill, Brill.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t9RSopRxas

27th April

While we contact you by email we will use another name and call ourselves  “Waves” instead of Open the Book.
So, here is our first Bible story of the term.

The Story of Jesus Calming the Storm.

Calming the storm

Well, Jesus as we know, is a very special person.
Can you imagine what it was like to be on the boat with Him?   The roaring seas and the boat heaving up and down on the waves, it must have been scary.  Perhaps you could act the story out?

Can you sit quietly now and read this prayer….

Thank you Jesus for being there for us, especially in times of trouble and stress.   Please be with us now, in our hearts and minds, as you were for the Disciples in the boat. God bless us all, Amen

Now for some fun.  How about inviting your family to join you sing and dance to .. Every Move I Make I Think Of You, Jesus.
