Mighty Oaks Class
Year 5/ Year 6 - 2023-2024
Teacher: Mrs France
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Leggett
Welcome to the Mighty Oaks webpage.
Our core text this term is:
Reggie Houser finds it hard to make friends, and it doesn’t feel very good to be him – the popular kids think he is strange and he thinks the answer is to change himself to be more like them. He thinks that he has found the answer to all of his problems when he discovers that he is able to influence the minds of others (cue some rather amusing antics!) but in doing so, he forgets the importance of knowing his own mind.
Homework
Homework will be set on a Friday via class emails
Homework will consist of the following:
- Maths activities
- Times Tables Rockstars https://ttrockstars.com/
- Spelling Shed https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/
- Individual reading logs
Reading
It is really important that you read with your child at least 5 times a week.
To support your child at home with their reading you could use lots of different questioning techniques. Asking your child to repeat/ summarise what they have read or picking specific events in the book to talk about will help you to understand what they have learnt. You can find lots of example questions to ask your child below.
Book banded reading books will be sent home with each child along with a reading log. Please ensure your child completes a reading review at the end of a book. Pupils should aim to read a variety of genres and text types across the year.
PE
PE will be on a Wednesday. Children should come to school in their PE kit on their PE day.
Drinks & Snacks
Please ensure that your child brings a drink of water (not fruit drinks or squash) to school each day. This needs to be in a labelled bottle that we can keep in the classroom which can be accessed during the day. Please provide your child piece of fruit for morning break.
