Mighty Oaks Class
Year 5/ Year 6 - 2025-2026
Teachers: Mrs France and Mrs Archer
Teaching Assistant: Miss Pressley
Welcome to the Mighty Oaks webpage.
Our core text this term is:
Clockwork by Philip Pullman
A tormented apprentice clock-maker, a deadly mechanical knight in armour - and the sinister Dr Kalmenius, who some say is the devil ... Wind up these characters, fit them into a story on a cold winter's evening, with the snow swirling down, and suddenly life and the story begin to merge in a peculiarly macabre - and unstoppable - way.
Almost like clockwork ...

- Individual reading logs
Reading
It is really important that you read with your child at least 5 times a week.
To support your child at home with their reading you could use lots of different questioning techniques. Asking your child to repeat/ summarise what they have read or picking specific events in the book to talk about will help you to understand what they have learnt. You can find lots of example questions to ask your child below.
Book banded reading books will be sent home with each child along with a reading log. Please ensure your child completes a reading review at the end of a book. Pupils should aim to read a variety of genres and text types across the year.
PE
PE will be on a swimming on a Monday. Children should come to school in their PE kit on their PE day.
Drinks & Snacks
Please ensure that your child brings a drink of water (not fruit drinks or squash) to school each day. This needs to be in a labelled bottle that we can keep in the classroom which can be accessed during the day. Please provide your child piece of fruit for morning break.
