Worship Crew 2024-2025

Our Bitterley Worship Crew are a very friendly and helpful group who are working to inspire and support all of our collective worship and R.E. learning in school. We lead and support our collective worship once a week and ensure that we are developing our understanding of Christian values and spirituality in school.

In September 2023 we launched our Christian Vision linked to the bible story of the Good Samaritan across the school community through drama workshops and our school newsletter. We worked alongside the Reverend Parker from Bitterley church.

We celebrate special events at school and church such as harvest and remeberance day

Advent 2024

This year worship crew are exploring the meaning of advent. The word Advent comes from the Latin 'adventus,' which means 'coming' or 'arrival' to signify the birth of Jesus. We have placed our advent wreath in the office window. The holly is also used as a symbol of the crown of thorns that Jesus wore when he was crucified. The circle of the wreath represents God, his eternity and mercy. Every Sunday a candle is lit. Each candle has a special significance:

Advent 1 The Patriarchs (Hope)

Advent 2 The Prophets (Peace)

Advent 3 John the Baptist (Joy)

Advent 4 The Virgin Mary (love) Christmas Day The Christ

Advent 1

Year 5 pupils took part in a special advent DHMAT advent service at Hereford cathedral. This a a traditional service of carols and readings. Worship crew were asked to write a special prayer which was shared with all trust schools during the service. Please share our prayer.

Dear Lord,

As we step into Advent, we’re excited to invite you into our world. Please shine your light on us and fill our lives with the joy of your coming, reminding us of the hope that Christmas brings. Help us find fulfilment so we can share that joy with one another.

We’re thankful for the grace that education brings — opening our minds and nurturing our ambitions, all thanks to our amazing school teams. We hope to grow in kindness and courage, supporting our adults as they work to make our learning environments better.

As we come together as a family of schools, let’s strengthen our connections and work together in friendship. This Advent season, may we spread your hope and love in everything we do.

Amen.

Worship crew lit the first candle in our advent wreath. This candle symbolises hope. To recognise this, pupils have written messages of hope for our school tree.

Advent 2 The Prophets (Peace)

Posada  As we light the second candle of Advent we think about faith. Mary and Joseph have started their journey to Bethlehem. Posada is a chance to host Mary and Joseph – to make room for Jesus at Christmas time! Every class made the couple feel welcomed into our community.

Advent 3 John the Baptist (Joy)

The theme for the church service was the joy of Christmas. Joy is a very real and deep happiness that is rooted in faith and trust. Worship crew explored Christmas traditions in our families and communities and reflected on the real meaning of Christmas.

Remembrance 2024

Poppy wall created by members of the village and school community

Worship crew created 100 recycled poppies to represent those who fought in war. Each pupil planted a poppy in the spiritual garden to represent someone special to them during collective worship.

Harvest Service 2024

This year worship crew led the harvest celebration with the theme 'Faith as small as a mustard seed'.

Matthew 13:31-33

‘Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”’

Worship Crew made 100 pots of seeds to share this message with the school community. Every class took part in the service contributing songs, poems and presentations about harvest around the world.

The children have decided to give harvest donations to the local food bank.

The worship crew actively lead collective worship across the school.  Each week they host two special collective worships that are linked to the bible reading of the week. The school community are then provided with the opportunity to explore this reading further through drama, hot seating, reflections and prayer. The pupils have created a special worship area in the school hall.

Easter 2024

Our church service retold the story of the three trees. Three young trees each make a wish. When they are felled, it seems as if all their dreams are over. But each is destined to play an important part in the life of Jesus, and in this their dreams are more than fulfilled. This moving tale provided an insight into the life of Jesus.

Our Tree of Hope

Every class wrote a message of hope for the future.

We sent doves of peace to the Children’s Commissioner. We wanted our views heard.
